Privacy Policy
Effective date: June 22, 2026
deed ("we", "our", or "us") is operated by Deed App LLC, a California limited liability company. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and your rights. By using deed, you agree to the practices described here. This app is intended for users in the United States.
1. Information We Collect
- Account information: When you sign in with Google or Apple, we receive your name, email address, and profile photo from those services.
- Content you create: Deeds, requests, comments, photos, and other content you post through the app.
- Usage data: Activity within the app such as deeds posted, reactions given, scores earned, and features used. Collected via PostHog, a behavioral analytics service, to help us improve the app.
- Device information: General device type, operating system version, and crash reports collected via Sentry for debugging purposes.
- Device identifier (hashed): When you post a deed, we collect a one-way SHA-256 hash of your app installation identifier. This hash cannot be reversed to identify your device and is used solely to detect and prevent coordinated abuse across multiple accounts (see Section 5). It is stored on your deed documents and is not shared with third parties.
- Location (optional): City-level location if you choose to associate your deeds with a location. When you grant location permission, your device's GPS coordinates are processed transiently to determine your city via your device's geocoding service (Apple or Google) — we do not store or transmit precise GPS coordinates to our servers. Only the resolved city name is stored. Location is always optional.
- Push notification token: If you grant notification permission, we store a device push token to deliver in-app notifications.
- Referral data: If you open the app through a referral link, we record the referring user's ID on your profile to credit them with referral points. This data is stored permanently and is not shared with third parties.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account
- To display your deeds and profile to other users
- To calculate and display scores, streaks, and leaderboards
- To review deed content for authenticity (see Section 5)
- To detect and prevent fraud, coordinated fake account creation, and rate-limit abuse (see Section 5)
- To enable peer review of flagged content by qualified community members
- To send push notifications you have opted into (likes, comments, streak reminders, milestone celebrations)
- To improve the app and fix issues
- To analyze aggregate usage patterns
3. Data Storage
Your data is stored securely using Google Firebase (Firestore and Firebase Storage), hosted in the United States. We use Firebase Authentication to manage sign-in and never store your passwords.
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your personal information. Content you post (deeds, comments, profile) is visible to other signed-in users of the app. We do not share your personal data with third parties except:
- Google Firebase: Core infrastructure for authentication, database, and storage
- PostHog: Behavioral analytics. We send your in-app user ID, username, city, community tier, deed score, streak count, and account creation date to PostHog for product analytics. This data is used to understand usage patterns and improve the app. PostHog does not receive your email address or photos.
- Sentry: Error monitoring (device info and stack traces for debugging; no user content)
- Anthropic (Claude): Deed descriptions are sent to an AI service for content verification (see Section 5). No account information is included.
- Business transfer: If Deed App LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, reorganization, asset sale, or bankruptcy, your information may be transferred as part of that transaction. We will notify you via email or prominent notice in the app before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
- As required by law: We may disclose information if required by a valid legal process or to protect the safety of users or the public.
5. Content Review and Fraud Prevention
AI content review: When you post a deed, the title and description are submitted to an automated AI system (powered by Anthropic's Claude) for content verification. This review checks whether the deed appears to be a genuine act of community service and flags content that may be fabricated, harmful, or in violation of our terms. Only the text of your deed is sent — no personal identifiers are included. Deeds flagged by the AI may be reviewed by eligible community members (peer review) or by deed staff before being published.
Fraud prevention: To protect community integrity, we apply automated security checks when a deed is submitted. These checks include verifying account age and comparing a hashed device identifier against recent activity to detect coordinated abuse across multiple accounts. New accounts are subject to additional review before their content appears publicly. These measures are applied to all submissions and are necessary to maintain a trustworthy platform. The legal basis for this processing is our legitimate interest in preventing fraud and abuse.
6. Community Scoring and Peer Review
deed maintains a community scoring system that tracks your deed activity, engagement, and consistency. Your score and tier are visible to other users. Deeds flagged during AI review may be submitted to peer review, where users with a sufficient deed score can vote to approve or reject the content. Peer reviewers see only the deed content — not your personal information.
7. User-Generated Content and Other Users
deed is a social platform. Content posted by other users, including photos that may incidentally include you, is outside our direct control. If you believe another user has posted content that violates your privacy, contact us immediately at support@deedapp.app and we will review and remove it if appropriate.
If an intimate image of you has been posted without your consent, we will remove it and any known identical copies within 48 hours of receiving a valid request, in accordance with the TAKE IT DOWN Act. See our Terms of Service for the full removal process.
8. Push Notifications
If you grant notification permission, we may send you push notifications for: likes and thanks on your deeds, comments, friend requests, streak reminders, and milestone celebrations. You can disable notifications at any time in your device settings. We do not use push notifications for advertising.
9. Data Retention and Account Deletion
We retain your data for as long as your account is active. You can request deletion of your account and all associated data at any time by contacting us at support@deedapp.app. We will process deletion requests within 45 days. Note that content you have posted that other users have interacted with (likes, comments) may leave trace references that are not personally identifiable.
10. Children's and Minors' Privacy
deed is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us with personal information, please contact us immediately at support@deedapp.app and we will delete it promptly.
Users aged 13–17: deed permits users aged 13 and older. We apply the following protections for users we know or reasonably believe to be under 18:
- We do not collect more personal information from minors than is necessary to provide the app's core functionality.
- We do not sell, share for targeted advertising, or use for profiling the personal information of users under 18.
- Privacy-protective settings are applied by default. Minors' profiles and content are subject to the same visibility settings as adult users, with no additional data collection or exposure.
- We do not collect precise geolocation data from any user. Location is always optional and limited to city-level resolution.
- We do not use dark patterns, manipulative design, or deceptive techniques to encourage minors to provide personal information or lower their privacy protections.
If you are under 18, we encourage you to use deed with a parent or guardian's awareness. Parents or guardians may contact us at support@deedapp.app to request access to, correction of, or deletion of their child's data.
11. California Residents (CCPA/CPRA)
California residents have the following rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act (as amended by the CPRA):
- Right to know: You may request a copy of the personal information we have collected about you in the preceding 12 months.
- Right to delete: You may request deletion of your personal information, subject to certain exceptions.
- Right to correct: You may request correction of inaccurate personal information.
- Right to portability: You may request a copy of your data in a structured, commonly used, machine-readable format.
- Right to opt out of sale or sharing: We do not sell your personal information. We share limited data (user ID, username, city, community tier, deed score) with PostHog for analytics purposes, which may constitute "sharing" under the CPRA. You may opt out of this sharing by contacting us at support@deedapp.app or by broadcasting a Global Privacy Control (GPC) opt-out preference signal from your browser or device. We will honor GPC signals as valid opt-out requests.
- Right to non-discrimination: We will not discriminate against you for exercising any of these rights.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@deedapp.app. We will verify your identity and respond within 45 days.
12. Your Rights
You may request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a portable copy of your personal data at any time by contacting us at support@deedapp.app. You may also withdraw consent by deleting your account.
